CodingPlanX is an AI gateway for developers: one API key, one endpoint, and routed access to what it claims is 600+ models — instead of maintaining separate accounts, keys and billing with every provider. Free tokens are offered to start.
Gateways are infrastructure, so the evaluation is an infrastructure evaluation: not “is it nice” but “what happens to my product when this middleman has a bad day”.
What it costs
Free tokens on signup, then pay-per-use at rates that vary per model. The whole gateway category lives on a spread — they buy capacity, you pay a markup for the convenience of one bill. That markup is fine if it is honest; compare their per-token price on the two or three models you actually use against the providers’ own price cards. If the spread is thin, the single-key convenience is cheap. If it is thick, you are paying rent on laziness.
What we can’t tell you
The things that only show up in production: latency added by the routing hop, rate-limit behaviour under load, how fast new model versions appear, and what their uptime looks like when a big provider changes an API. The established players in this category (OpenRouter and friends) have public track records on all four; a newer gateway is asking you to take them on faith. Free tokens make a benchmark cheap — run one before you route anything that matters.
The details
| What it is | Single-endpoint API gateway routing to 600+ claimed models |
| Price | Free tokens to start · pay-per-use with per-model rates |
| Best for | Side projects that want many models without many accounts |
| Think twice if | You’re routing production traffic — compare spreads and uptime against the incumbents first |
