ByteDance ships a lot of AI products and the naming does them no favours. Dreamina, Jimeng, CapCut, Jianying, Pippit, BytePlus, Volcengine, Doubao, Seedance, Seedream — several are the same thing, several are nothing like each other, and a guide written three months ago may describe a tool you cannot reach.
There is one pattern that sorts almost all of it out.
The pattern: everything has a twin
ByteDance builds a Chinese product and an international sibling of the same thing. Different name, different sign-up, often a different release schedule — but the same product underneath.

So if a tutorial mentions Jimeng and you cannot sign up, you are not doing anything wrong — Jimeng gates registration behind a mainland Chinese phone number or an existing Douyin account, and the interface is in Chinese. Dreamina is the one you want, at dreamina.capcut.com, with an English interface and sign-up by Google, email or TikTok.

Seedance, Seedream and Seededit are not products. They are the models — video, image and image-editing respectively — and you reach them through the products above. “Which is better, Seedance or Dreamina” is not a question, in the same way that “which is better, a V6 or a Toyota” is not.
Why guides contradict each other
The rollouts are staged, and unusually they did not start where you would expect.
Seedance 2.0 reached CapCut first in Brazil, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam — then later the US, Europe and Japan. Emerging markets first, then the West, which is the reverse of the normal pattern and the reason a tutorial from March describes something a US reader could not do until later, while a Vietnamese reader could.
The practical consequence: if a feature is missing for you, check the guide’s date and country before assuming you have missed a setting. That is the single most common source of confusion with this family.
Pricing, roughly
The four you can actually use price completely differently, which is another reason comparing them directly goes wrong.
- Dreamina — credit-based subscription. Around $1.06–1.29 per eight-second clip in practice, and the newest model tier is usually gated to paying subscribers. 1080p costs roughly 2.5× the 720p per-second rate.
- CapCut — subscription for the editor; generation is a feature within it rather than a metered product, so there is no visible per-clip price.
- Pippit — free tier of 150 credits a week (about two minutes of video plus 75 images), then roughly $10/month for 2,100 monthly credits.
- BytePlus — per second, and by far the cheapest: the Seedance mini tier runs around $0.03 per second, roughly a tenth of what the consumer routes cost. Requires per-model activation in the console and you write the code.
The spread between Dreamina and BytePlus for the same underlying model is on the order of ten to one. You are paying for the interface, which is a real product — just be aware that is what the money is buying.
So which should you use
You want to make videos and you do not code: Dreamina. It gets the models first and it is built for this.
You are already editing in CapCut: use what is there, and go to Dreamina when it is not.
You sell products: Pippit. It is a different job from the others and it does it well.
You are generating at volume and can write code: BytePlus, and it is not close on price.
